After announcing that the upcoming Wrath of the Lich King Classic would have Fresh Start servers, Blizzard is responding to some community feedback over a few of the details of how things will work.
The Fresh Start servers are intended to give those that want to begin the next chapter on a level playing field the chance to do just that. In order to do this, there are some rules they laid out to keep things working according to that vision. One is that there will be no server transfers for at least 90 days after these servers open. Another involves no boosting, again, for at least 90 days. Some expressed concern over the transfers rule, and the idea that transfers would open after 90 days and upend the whole fresh start intent.
This morning, WoW Classic Game Producer Aggrend had a response.
“I felt it was important to chime in and highlight that Kaviax’s post specifically mentions they won’t be available for at least 90 days. As in, at minimum.” Effectively, this doesn’t mean that they will open at the 90 day mark or even soon after that. There’s a reason that the team didn’t attach a firm date to the announcement. They’re aiming to let players begin and monitor the data, from population to progression, player behavior, and additional feedback once things are underway.
“There is nothing saying that transfers must flip on exactly on day 91, day 191, or even day 991 and we don’t intend to commit to an arbitrary timeframe for transfers to become enabled super far ahead of time. We plan to be very thoughtful and deliberate when it comes to how and when we lift the restrictions around transfers on these realms.”
In other words, we won’t be able to expect any decision on opening transfers, and Aggrend declares that they want to hold true to why they’re opening Fresh Start servers in the first place, and are in no rush to alter that.
