If you thought the MOBA genre wouldn't get any more cluttered, think again, as the Pokémon Company is getting their feet wet by launching Pokémon UNITE this summer. The upcoming MOBA will see life on the Nintendo Switch as well as iOS and Android devices this year.
Announced yesterday, Pokémon UNITE will be a free-to-play MOBA, but with in-game purchases. Since this will be hitting both Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms, the upcoming game will also feature cross-progression, allowing players to keep their progress whichever way they choose to play at the moment.
Pokémon UNITE is set on Aeos Island where players will participate in a series of Unite Battle tournaments. These battles will see teams of five face off against each other to amass points before a timer runs out. The battles will be carried out by the Pokémon themselves, with Aeos energy present on the field to allow for evolutions to take place as well.
Via the announcement:
"In this game, players face off against each other in 5-on-5 team battles. During battles, players will cooperate with teammates to catch wild Pokémon, level up and evolve their own Pokémon, and defeat opponents’ Pokémon while trying to earn more points than the opposing team within the allotted time."
While it will be coming to the Nintendo Switch in July, mobile players will be waiting until September to get their hands on the new MOBA. You can check out the new website to see more of the game in action, as well as learn a bit about some of the Pokémon you can control in the upcoming MOBA.
