Nightmare Fuel

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is almost upon us as the upcoming entry in the long running series hits Nintendo Switch on the 28th of January. To set the stage, a new trailer has dropped showing off some of the gameplay trainers can expect when jumping into ancient Sinnoh.

The trailer, which at the moment is only in Japanese, is about 6 minutes long and showcases quite a bit of gameplay for those looking forward to Arceus. Mainly, the trailer shows off how you capture pocket monster in the world, as well as introduces you to some of Sinnoh - now called the Hisui region in its more ancient state - and its inhabitants.

While the world of Pokémon Legends: Arceus will see players running around and lobbing magical monster-holding spheres at Pokémon, it won't simply be as simple as that. Some Pokémon will fight back, and like always you may need to weaken your quarry before you're able to capture them.

To select the Pokémon you want to use to weaken the opposing monster, simply choose the one from your roster and toss the PokéBall at the wild one. The battle will ensue and looks like it plays out much like battles in previous games - it's turn based and while the animations have been given a bit more life, the video still evokes Pokémon games from the past.

It won't be super simple to catch a Pokémon, however, as you'll need to sneak up on some, or in other instances avoid attacks thrown your way. The one enduring vision from the trailer for me is not the shiny Pokémon getting away, but rather the angry Snorlax charging at the character. Nightmare fuel.

Other changes were shown off in the trailer for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, such as the new ranch to take care of your Pokémon rather than the PC boxes to store the ones you're not using. The trailer also shows off a basecamp of sorts where you set out on your journey in the particular region.

It's worth checking out, though be warned the trailer voice over and everything on screen is in Japanese. No doubt Nintendo will be releasing an English-language version leading up to Pokémon Legends: Arceus hitting the Nintendo Switch later this month, but for now you can check out the trailer in the embed above.
