Sony will host a special PlayStation State of Play stream tomorrow that will showcase over 20 minutes of new gameplay footage from Final Fantasy XVI.
Final Fantasy XVI was originally announced back in a PlayStation 5 showcase back in 2020. The new entry is a dark fantasy featuring people known as Dominants, who each have an Eikon within them. The Eikons are the powerful summons a Final Fantasy fan will be familiar with, and the nature and rarity of the Dominants is set against a backdrop of power struggles, intrigue, and war.
The game has an active battle system that has been compared to Devil May Cry, and while we're not sure what kind of gameplay footage Square Enix and Sony will present tomorrow, we should be prepared for some of this action.
The stream will begin at 2 PM PDT / 5 PM EDT / 11 PM CEST tomorrow, and will be live on the PlayStation Twitch and YouTube channels. With the game set to launch on June 22nd, expect these previews to be ramping up in the coming weeks.
Sony’s announcement was paired with a 30-second promo spot, though nothing that gives anything away about what we’ll see in tomorrow’s stream. It will be new gameplay, so naturally there may be some reveals happening too.

Final Fantasy XVI is looking full of political intrigue, power moves, and of course, rich lore that has been part of the franchise forever. Last December, we got a release date and a new trailer, ”Revenge” that highlighted the action-packed combat style. While a departure some may be skeptical about, the next installment is on its way in just over two months.
Tomorrow’s stream is another opportunity to get a look at more of the saga that’s on the way and the darker action ahead.
