Player Potential System to be Used in Competitive Play

The Star Trek Online site has been updated with a new post to lay out the details of the new Player Potential System used in competitive play. The new determination feature will improve the overall PvP experience for all players. This is a "behind the scenes" calculation and isn't "directly exposed to the player".

Player potential is determined by equipment and specializations, each used for both Ground or Space based matches. These "modifiers" are adjusted as a player fights competitively. In short, the more a captain fights, the more accurate the match making capacity of the Player Potential System becomes.

It’s important to note that the system is intelligent enough to know if you don’t belong where you are currently ranked. Losing a lot, or winning a lot in quick succession will cause your Player Potential to drastically change, as the system becomes less confident in your current position. This results in being able to place you where you will have the most competitive experience, faster.
