Pillars of Eternity will Slip Past First Half 2014 Release

According to a new interview at Eurogamer, Obsidian Entertainment's Pillars of Eternity will not make the "first half 2014" release date predicted on its Kickstarter crowd sourcing page. According to the project lead, Josh Sawyer, the game originally started as a moderately sized project that expanded exponentially due to the higher than expected revenues gained through Kickstarter. As a result, much more was added, also adding to development time.

Obsidian orginally planned a modest RPG that would encompass five classes and a more limited game space. So thinking, the Kickstarter was planned for $1M. Instead, Obsidian's Pillars of Eternity Kickstarter raised more than $4M and have a larger team, a larger stock of content to create, eleven character classes to flesh out and much more. All of this, according to Sawyer, requires more time.

When is Pillars of Eternity coming out? Spring? That's what developer Obsidian said during the game's Kickstarter campaign.

But no, according to project lead Josh Sawyer, who spoke to me recently, "It's not going to be in spring." What about summer? Probably not.

Is it realistic, then, for people not to expect Pillars of Eternity in the first half of 2014? "Yeah," he answered. "It's going to come later."
