If you’re an Xbox fan so upset at Microsoft’s recent corporate decisions that you could set a nuclear bomb on Microsoft, either this news is a bit of catharsis or mild disappointment. It turns out that Phil Spencer, the company’s gaming division’s CEO, has been playing Fallout 76—and one player found a chance to nuke his base.
Someone spotted the deed a few evenings ago, sharing screenshots on Twitter of the ordeal.

Player “real1090jake” on Twitter then fessed up to the act in the replies, saying just: “Guilty” with some screenshots of the (literal) fallout.

Many players thought this to be sweet revenge, given the recent Microsoft Games layoffs of several beloved mid-sized studios. However, it turns out it wasn’t that deep, according to real1090jake.
“I joked about attacking him because he hurt our feelings...[but] it’s been my mission weeks before,” he told Kotaku via Twitter DMs. Apparently, he’s been trying to catch “P3” in a PvP match since he was discovered, but Phil gets swarmed by players every time he logs on, as he plays on public severs. Nuking seems a fair alternative.
Basically, it seems more of a reaction to realizing Phil Spencer is in Fallout 76 at all. Players learned it was him about a month ago, when someone posted themself playing with him on Reddit using his “P3” tag, with others complimenting the Microsoft Gaming CEO’s presence in the game at all. It turns out, making yourself known can put a target on one’s back, and as long as player-versus-player gaming has existed, nobody has ever been safe from the ridiculousness of human tomfoolery.
Nuking a player base in Fallout 76 isn’t an impossibility, either, per se. You pretty much just have to level up, accomplish certain quests, get some Silo Code Pieces, and then fight through the robotic The relative ease of literal player-versus-player nuclear warfare was both a point of critique and of comedy on 76’s launch, and this incident probably adds to that intrigue.
Still, it doesn’t seem like real1090jake is done: he’s still tweeting about wanting a fair one-on-one fight with Phil Spencer. But as mentioned, the man is surrounded by players every time he signs on. Fair dilemma and goal. I wish him luck.
