Phantasy Star Online 2's New Genesis Global Launch Marred By Downtime Issues

Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis is finally live this morning after a series of issues marred the launch earlier this morning. The team at SEGA have announced that servers are finally open almost 8 hours after it was supposed to originally go live.

Originally slated to go live at 4am EDT/1am PDT, the servers experienced myriad issues which kept pushing it back from its original launch time. Throughout the early morning, the team kept players aware of what was going on with the extended maintenance, identifying a Steam launcher issue as well that was hoped to be patched before the maintenance was up. We reached out to our SEGA representative to see if they can add some clarity as to what exactly was causing the extended downtime, and we'll update here if they provide comment.

However,  the servers are online and filling up fast. Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis, if you'll remember, brings new features such as an updated graphics engine, more open world gameplay, and story. Characters  can be shared between the original version of PSO2 and New Genesis, so there isn't a need for established ARKs to feel like they are starting over as such.

New Genesis players can participate in a multitude of campaigns and events to mark the launch of the updated version of the MMORPG, including login rewards for those just starting out, as well as campaigns specific to your platform of choice.

For those of you filing into the server and are stuck in queues, if you're looking for some reading material, you can check out Steven's impressions of the beta to whet your appetitite.

[Editor's Note] This article has been edited to correct an error where we initially stated progress would be shared. Apologies on the mistake.
