Pax Dei will soon take measures to clear out abandoned plots, in the wake of player complaints that servers are too full, according to a community update posted to its official Discord.
While the sandbox survival fantasy social "cloud-native" MMORPG is meant to be somewhat “perpetual” in nature, devs noted that players in busier “shards” can’t join their friends and clans due to spots/plots being entirely full. As a result, there’ll be a “plot clean up,” as they call it—essentially, taking out truly abandoned plots to make way for players proactively playing the game.
It’s been done similarly before, apparently, but this time it’ll be a more pointed, well-constructed effort.
“This next round will aim to free up more space and therefore requires more preparation - we will apply several criteria to ensure we cast a wider net but only remove truly abandoned plots,” the update reads.
For similar server reasons, it seems players have asked if character transfers would be possible. “While we’d love to offer this possibility,” the update continues, “this won’t be in the near future as we need to see how to transfer buildings, resources etc. for your experience to be as smooth as possible.” Pax Dei does have a unique server system that it’s explained in the past, though character transfer is a fairly common MMORPG genre feature.
It’s a common conundrum in new games for the player population to spike with interest, before losing numbers in the weeks to come, even in more popular games. This can be an issue for games with perpetual sandbox systems like Pax Dei, which allows players and clans to mark plots as their own—especially in a persistent world.
Pax Dei is in its early deis (heh) as it continues its fresh, paid Early Access stages, so this issue may flux, as may its solutions and quality.
