Pax Dei’s developers wants you to know what it is—and isn’t. In anticipation of its Early Access launch, the sandbox MMORPG’s studio, Mainframe Industries, has put out the first of two pre-launch blogs, this one with a “manifesto” about about the philosophy and intentions behind the game.
First, the devs explain what Pax Dei isn’t. For instance, it’s not a “theme park MMO,” with basic fetch and rescue quests, but instead an open world to explore. It’s inspired by medieval games, but is not a “medieval simulator;” it has similarities with survival games, but is not one itself; it’s not fast-paced, and it’s not a single-player experience.
What it boasts is its label as a “social sandbox MMO,” with key gameplay pillars of “Homestead,” “Adventure” and “Civilization.” Quite a few times, the devs get into how it’s intentionally built its gameplay to be slow but rewarding, with a high potential for discovery and collaboration along the way. The next blog will go over the state of the game and its roadmap.
Pax Dei has seen a few test sessions already, including an extended alpha of its Wilderness gameplay, and, assuming all goes well, will launch into Early Access on June 18.
We’re also giving away a Pax Dei Founder’s Pack (for U.S. residents only), including some digital and physical goodies, until the date of that Early Access launch.
