Pax Dei Promises Alpha Date Soon, But for Now, Shows Off Work on Foreboding Dungeons

Mainframe Industries knows you want to know when the next Pax Dei playtest will be. They’re not telling anyone just yet, though, but they are showing off some work the team has done on dungeons.

In a post on the game’s official Discord, the team says that “We know you're all excited for updates on the upcoming test. While we can't provide details just yet, we'll have more to share with you real soon”. The test was promised in Q1, and with that coming to an end, have said we’d hear about that next alpha soon.

Instead of a date confirmation, we are getting a look at recent work on dungeons, including dungeon entrances. They've been working on the dungeon visuals to represent the various themes of the dungeons and the functions they are intended to play. As Pax Dei is going for a very realistic, high-quality style, the dungeon entrances are unsurprisingly intricate, though other areas highlighted in the sets of screenshots include familiar types of rooms and setups, in places like a prison, and a room with foreboding looking protrusions coming from the walls. To say intricate isn’t to say they’re groundbreaking, but they’re dungeons and look as dungeons should look.

In showing another bit of dungeon, we get this lore tease:

“The natural cave sections of some of the deep cultist dungeons have also had a pass to better represent the dark practices they host, but they are better left unspoken of”.

Both sets of screenshots give us an idea of what the team has progressed in creating, and design evolution (as some entrance changes are clear), but we can credit the team with raising questions (and likely making folks want that playtest date even more) effectively.
