With the next Early Access update, Pax Dei will get a new feature, a compass. The team shared an introduction to the Compass, a new video, and more on how it will work.

The addition of a compass is going to offer a way to help navigate the world. Players will be able to build and make everything, and you can always try to navigate by landmarks, but sometimes it’s easy to just glance up and make sure you haven’t gotten turned around from your path. What Mainframe is trying to do here is to offer options to help those who want it and still offer a way to navigate a little easier without disrupting the discovery that is inherent in what they are creating.

Maybe you're attacked by mobs and then you want to re-orient yourself to where you were going, the compass will let you navigate via cardinal directions, and it will also display things like local points of interest and allow you to place custom markers.

From where you are, custom markers and points of interest will appear based on  their distance from you, up to about 300 m. As you get closer or further away from certain things, the transparency will change. Player plots will also be visible at long range,  at a distance that they've mentioned as over a kilometer but less than a mile. Custom waypoints will remain.

When the feature is introduced, these will be the basic options, but the team is working on ways to customize your experience, like toggling which markers appear.

What if you don't want the compass taking up real estate on your screen? This will be an optional feature. If you prefer to simply go out into the world and rely on yourself to get around, you can always turn it off in settings.
