Pax Dei’s big Proving Grounds update is coming to shake things up in the Early Access build next week, and Mainframe has done a few community interviews discussing the big update, their goals, and what to know.
Interviews in English were done with streamers Eltarii and Demone Kim, along with a number of other languages. With this update, Mainframe is working to improve combat mechanics, update biomes, better loot and resource distribution, rebalance wildlife, and a whole lot of other systems ahead of other major changes coming down the line.
With combat, They're looking to give you more control over your character, with easier attack cancellation, better blocking, improvements to melee, and in movement, all making combat smoother and other updates. There’s a light targeting assist that will guide you towards a target. You can change targets as you want to. It's a big update, so expect some changes to address the meta of weapon swapping, the importance of blocking, and more.
Movement improvements overall will also impact combat, and they are offering improvements to reduce choppiness, particularly in crowds.
Other rebalance changes include greater variety in wildlife, in terms of difficulty and numbers. Clan systems are coming. Solo camps are a new PvE feature that lets you engage smaller numbers of enemies. You can earn rewards, gain bonuses, and even earn spells. When it comes to loot, the party that does the most damage in PVE sites will make off with the spoils. No last minute sniping here.
Both hour-long interviews dive into the big update coming next week, but also talk about the future. While Proving Grounds will take some adjustment once it lands, the team is also discussing things like future fast travel and what that might look like, things like improvements on PVP mechanics like crowd control cooldowns, and additional safeguards to address exploits and borderline unfair practices.
The Pax Dei team Is also talking growth and what their goals are for the future, and their vision is that players will influence the world and also their own stories within the game. this includes the player-driven economy. PvPers might even decide to earn some gold to protect certain areas for those who don’t want to engage. They tossed out a number of ideas and it's clear that they're thinking big.
Pax Dei’s next update will change things, but given these new community interviews, there’s a whole lot more on the table for Mainframe to work with. It brings us back to their repeated declaration that Early Access is development, so prep for the big wipe that's about to happen and for big stuff in the future.
