Path of Exile: Settlers of Kalguur released in time for the weekend, adding new content, including non-combat systems, combat overhauls, and more. Grinding Gear Games is reporting another new record for concurrent players for PoE: 350,000.
The team has published a new recap about their latest expansion launch, including that new detail, along with how things went on PC and console, and some community videos. Hitting a new concurrent player record is something we’ve seen when a PoE expansion launches, but this one continues to show that growth and potential.
On PC, the release was relatively uneventful. There were some issues that the team was able to hotfix quickly and get things running smoothly, but the console release had a few deeper issues that took them some hours to get sorted out.
In a separate post about the console release, they apologize for the performance and note that this was the first time that they released their PC and console versions synchronously and there have been some lessons learned in the process. Late in testing, they found a bug that would have prevented League from being playable, and clearly that would not work with this game, so they fixed it quickly and then that fix made the virtual keyboard unusable. No virtual keyboard, no naming your characters, and thus, no ability to play. They did eventually get this right and everyone has been able to access the new expansion.
Still, once everything was running smoothly on all platforms, it seems that in general, the release went well. Path of Exile: Settlers of Kalguur offers new content, including some systems designed to give you more to do in the mid to late game, an automated currency trade market, and some combat overhauls.
