Now that ExileCon is behind us, and Path of Exile’s next expansion, Trial of the Ancestors, is coming in a few weeks, the team is answering some questions about the future of Crucible items and more.
The Crucible League has proven popular, and some in the community have wondered if elements of it, or even the framework, could become part of the core experience after the season ends. Well, this isn’t the first time that there has been a call for a framework and mechanics to stay. Grinding Gear Games gave a straightforward response to the question, and the answer is no. Once the season is over, most things Crucible will end.
However, there is some hope for the future.
“Crucible will not be going core, but there are components of it that we really like that we may find a way to bring back in future expansions.”
Now, this isn’t the first time that they've said similar in response to players loving a seasonal feature, but it is true that they do take time to figure out what elements night improve the game and fit with an ongoing and ever-twisty narrative too.
They’re letting everyone know all of this now for a few reasons, and one of those is the practical side of the question. Now that Crucible and its components are confirmed to be ending soon, what will happen with items?
Items that people have created using Crucible tree skills will move to Standard, with some yet-unknown (but obvious) change needed for "Totems Explode on Death". Some items, however, like Geodes, Magmatic Ore, and Remnants, will disappear once the season ends,so if you have anything to wrap up, now you know that the clock is ticking.
While this might disappoint some who loved the breadth of the Crucible options, they might return in some form.
