Path of Exile 1 to Get 'Whacky' What-If Gameplay Quirk Event As Wait For New Patch Prolonged

After delaying Path of Exile 1 patches again, Grinding Gear Games has announced it’ll be implementing “whacky” gameplay quirks to give players something to pass the time.

This is in light of the announcement made last week by Game Director Jonathan Rogers, in which he explains that Path of Exile 1 patches were delayed because, against their own better judgement as he acknowledges, reappropriated some of the staff towards a twice-delayed Path of Exile 2. This was discussed well after promises were made that PoE2 wouldn’t impact PoE1 development.

“Coming out of that we have adjusted some of our internal resources to be able to provide you with some content to fill the time until that expansion arrives,” the official developer post explains.

“To start with we'll be running a one-month event that has some of our whacky ideas that never quite made it off the brainstorm board."

“What does Path of Exile 1 look like when the nineteen Ascendancy Classes you know and are familiar with are all of a sudden replaced by a different nineteen? What does Path of Exile 1 look like when you get to play a Witch and ascend to become a Harbinger? These are the questions our design team asked each other and in this event will provide you with some of our answers.”

Beyond this, there's no real true content update announced, such as a new "Season." Its current Settlers of Kalguur season is quite good, though players can only mine so many materials and craft so many uniques.

In short, it looks like they’re doing the equivalent of fiddling with the knobs on the ship to make it do neat tricks while there’s nowhere to be. Do you think this will keep things interesting until there’s real patch news? Or has Path of Exile 2 already tempted you to pay up and join Early Access
