After several delays getting into its promised Early Access, Paradox Interactive has canceled open-world life sim Life By You and closed down Paradox Tectonic, the studio behind it.
Life By You was in development from Paradox Tectonic under Rod Humble, known for work on Second Life and The Sims. It was an ambitious life sim that aimed to offer an open world and an in-depth progression in the genre. However, there were several delays to the start of its promised Early Access, and now, Paradox has pulled the plug.

CEO Frederik Wester said, in a press release, that the game was just too far from where it needed to be, even with the promise of an Early Access period.
“For a long time, we’ve held hopes for Life by You and the potential we saw in it, but it is now clear that the game will not be able to meet our expectations. A version that we’d be satisfied with is too far away, and therefore we are taking the difficult decision to cancel the release. Moving forward, we should perform at a much higher level, and it’s obvious that we have work ahead of us,” he said.
With the industry still in a pattern of layoffs and canceled projects, many in the name of company reassessments to become stronger and more focused, Life By You is the latest on the list, along with Paradox Tectonic’s 24 employees.
