Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen Peaks At Over 2300 Concurrent Steam Players During First Early Access Weekend

Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen debuted into Steam early access last week, and over the weekend, the classic EverQuest-inspired MMO saw over 2300 players dive into Terminus for a look around.

After years of development, Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen officially released into early access last week, giving potential players the chance to finally jump into the world that Visionary Realms has been steadily building over the years. Despite the $40 price tag to get access, it seems that plenty of people are eager to see what the world of Terminus is all about.

Over the weekend, Pantheon peaked at 2,321 concurrent players on Steam, though creative director Chris Perkins reminded everyone on Twitter over the weekend that this number does not include the non-Steam players jumping in with Pantheon's own launcher.

Pantheon players have taken to Reddit to share their thoughts on the newly released early-access MMO, with many reminding players that this old-school vision means that you'll need to play with others, progression isn't instant, and that you'll need to do a bit of exploring to get a sense of what to do next. Others are taking to the subreddit to stress that Pantheon's early access is still in development and that this is a "testing game," telling players to not "complain about bugs/gameplay issues to friends" or elsewhere. This sentiment has seen some pushback from other posters, who point out that a $40 game in the wild, regardless of state, deserves to be evaluated as a functioning product and not necessarily a testing one.

As a side note, this is exactly why we started to score early access reviews this year.

It'll be interesting to see how much staying power Pantheon will have in the coming weeks, especially as players drop in and out throughout the holidays. Our writer Kevin is hard at work on his review of the early access experience, which we will have coming as soon as possible.

Did you jump into Pantheon over the weekend? What was your experience like, both good and bad? Let us know in the comments below.
