Ovis Aries to be Herded Into Game in Next Update

We have just "herd" today that Ovis Aries, or sheep, will be making their way into ARK: Survival Evolved for the next cross platform update coming in the near future. Not baaaaah'd, right?

The announcement of the deployment of sheep has come along with controversy, however, as it was originally announced to be entered into the game IF Ark won a Steam Award. It is currently up for a Best Use of a Farm Animal award and the team asked players to "show their support" by voting for Ark beginning December 29th and, if it won, that sheep would be included. To say that the Ark community took what it felt was coercion poorly is to understate things.

According to Polygon, that post has since been removed and a new post letting the community know that sheep will be released regardless has taken its place.

We were encouraged by Valve to rally the Community to come together and vote in the upcoming Steam Awards. We thought what better way to do this than add a modern-day farmyard animal! In our excitement, Ovis Aries was designed as a celebration of the nomination. We want to make it clear that regardless of whether ARK wins a Steam Award or not, Ovis will be making its debut in the next major ARK version update!

Check out more about the controversy at the link above and read the new announcement on the ARK: Survival Evolved site.
