The Overwatch site has been updated with a new blog post in cooperation with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. After players helped raise nearly $13M dollars earlier this year through sales of the Pink Mercy skin, the Foundation wanted to share insights into how those funds are being used in the spirit of transparency.
"The donation of over $12.7M will fuel three critical programs that examine every aspect of a breast cancer diagnosis and will change the lives of women and men across the globe:
- Precision Prevention Initiative - "fuels innovative prevention research to reduce the incidents of breast cancer". This initiative will kick off later this month.
- Translational Breast Cancer Research Consortium Award - funded by the Pink Mercy donations will launch five new clinical trials this year alone
- 25 Annual BCRF Research Grants - global awards to scientists around the world. "Blizzard Entertainment Awards will be distributed to 29 researchers in 10 US states and 8 total countries located in 6 different continents around the globe."
