Overwatch 2 Hero Mastery Courses Aim To Help You Get Better

Overwatch 2's newest feature aims to get you to improve with your favorite heroes, with its new Hero Mastery course taking root. The new single-player mode kicks off this week, starting with Lucio.

In a blog post on the Overwatch website, Blizzard has detailed what the new mode looks like, with the Hero Mastery mode aiming to help players improve with their favorite heroes in a series of trials. The new event will allow for players to earn rewards such as cosmetics for completing the course during the five-week event.

"Reach for the highest scores when you complete for fast times, defeat challenging training bots, and collect emblems throughout the course. You can already play Hero Mastery courses for Sojourn, Tracer, Mercy, Reinhardt, and Winston, along with Lucio’s course launching today.  As mentioned at the start of the season, we’ve made improvements to scoring in each Hero Mastery course, and we’re resetting the leaderboards, giving everyone a chance to prove themselves among the top hero masters."

Up first is Lucio, but each week, a new mastery course will be added with a new hero, with the next hero being Mei on January 9th. From there, we'll see D.Va on the 16th, Echo on the 23rd, and Genji on the 30th.

While this single-player mode will always be available, it's a far cry from the promised single-player mode players expected when Overwatch 2 was first announced. Propped up as a major reason for the sequel, the single-player Hero Mode was canceled back in May 2023, with the team stating that what the team had built didn't meet Blizzard's own quality standards, and that the team canceled the mode since it would be unable to deliver on the original vision of what they planned back in 2019.
