Fortnite Creative Director Darren Sugg sent out a tweet earlier today to reveal that the game had sold over 500,000 digital versions of the game prior to yesterday's Early Access launch. Of course, that doesn't include yesterday's sales or retail sales, so that number should be significantly higher.
Absolutely humbled by the response to this week's @FortniteGame launch. 500k+ digital pre-order sales and just getting started! Thank YOU.

Given the game's development cycle has been going on for 5+ years, the sales numbers have to be encouraging and will help fuel even more content for the game. Fortnite is expected to go "live" and free-to-play sometime in 2018.
