Adobe has seen the end of the Flash era and has decided to go along with the growing voices of discontent against it in a sense. Beginning early next year, Adobe will rebrand Flash into something called Adobe Animate CC.
According to Adobe sources, the move comes with the more prevalent use of HTML5 and the need for better animations that align more closely with it.
Publish animations to multiple platforms — including Flash/AIR, HTML5 Canvas, WebGL or even custom platforms — and reach viewers on virtually any desktop or mobile device. Animate CC will be available in early 2016: www.adobe.com/go/flash-now-animate
Adobe Animate will continue to support both Air and Flash so it remains to be seen if this is truly the "death of Flash" or simply renaming it to avoid recent bad press.
Adobe will be spotlighting Animate CC from now through December 4th on their Twitch channel.
