Old School RuneScape has its first new Slayer boss in five years, and if you're arachnophobic, you may want to sit this one out. If you're up for the challenge, the new boss should be familiar - Araxxor.
The big venomous spider made its debut in the original RuneScape a decade ago and has now arrived in Old School RuneScape. You'll need to be geared up and have an Araxyte Slayer Task from Nieve or Duradel. Head into the Araxyte Nest and get ready to face this enormous boss. This is a solo encounter, reimagined for OSRS, with mechanics that let you have some degree of control over the difficulty of the fight. The team isn't revealing all but recommends things like melee gear, runes to cast Vengeance, anti-venom potions and some food.
While in the room, you’ll notice araxyte eggs. you can actually start destroying the eggs and this will create an easier, but slower, overall fight. You can also take time to handle the spawns as they hatch and get through the whole thing faster.
If you let those hatchlings get too close, prepare for some pain. The explosive ones will explode (whoa), the acidic ones will not just attack you with acid, but then they'll also explode. The mirrorback ones absorb and reflect the damage that you deal to the boss right back at you. Taking down the eggs before you get swarmed by a bunch of hatchlings is a good idea even if you're not trying to make the overall fight easier.
If you manage to get through this giant creepy nightmare, there are a number of new rewards, including the Arraxor Slayer Helmet, made using the boss’s head for max effect, and the Rax pet. If you ever thought you wanted a spider follower while you're wearing a creepy spider helmet, the OSRS devs have answered.
Gear rewards include the new best in slot Amulet of Rancour, Aranea Boots, and the first competitive main hand halberd - the Noxious Halberd.
