With mid-December approaching, some studios are giving us a taste of what to expect in 2023. One of the latest previews came over the weekend at the Old School RuneScape Winter Summit. In 2023, some of what we can expect includes a return to Desert Treasure, official account builds, the return of Bounty Hunter, and even a new skill to come.
There’s a lot to consider for the first half of 2023, and the team also reminds everyone that this is not everything. They mention more on a Wilderness Boss rework coming that was not covered in the Winter Summit, for example. Still, the list of roadmap reveals are going to set up what seems like a big 2023. Of course, this being OSRS, the community polls are going to play a major part in determining direction, but the reveals give the community something to chew on for now.
Secrets of the North is coming on January 11, 2023. This is the previously mentioned mysterious quest the team has mentioned before, and has polled the community in some sneaky ways. Now, they’re just opening the door slightly on what is sure to be fully revealed in the coming weeks.
They did reveal that you'll have to complete this quest before you are able to take on the next phase of Desert Treasure. Yep, Desert Treasure is also back, with a continuation after 17 years, to go deeper into the Mahjarrat and to challenge all takers with a sort of evolution of the original. This will be a Grandmaster Quest with some details you can vote on, like whether this should be added at all, and if so, if the bosses should be unlocked as repeatable.
Also in the first half of 2023 is a Woodcutting expansion, Forestry: The Way of the Forester. “Forestry aims to make Woodcutting a more social experience by removing resource competition, introducing new events, and expanding the skill’s economic offerings.”
Old School RuneScape will also get the return of Bounty Hunter, the arena PvP minigame that the team had promised to bring back in an improved way. It’s coming.
Another proposed feature is to have official account builds, which could let those who want to play in more limited way to do so as an opt-in feature, where you’d only gain XP in whatever content you restrict yourself to.
