Old School RuneScape is getting custom servers, client updates, including an official HD mode, the return of Leagues, and the second part of the Varlamore trilogy of updates (and a peek at the third and final one!).

The reveals came at the Summer Summit, and there are a ton of new things coming to OSRS. Custom servers, under Project Zanaris, introduce another layer to the classic Old School RuneScape experience. After first proposing custom servers last year to A very positive reception, they are now on the way.

Not only do you have the classic OSRS experience, you can also change different elements to customize the experience. Some examples the team gave were increasing the damage dealt by NPCs, turning on PvP everywhere, or making everyone on the server an Ultimate Ironman. You also get to determine who has access to your server.

Varlamore: The Rising Darkness is the next expansion update in the Varlamore trilogy previously referred to as “part two”. Expect new areas to continue filling in the map, new quests, a brand new group boss, Hueycoatl,  rewards, and a new Herblore activity,  Mixology. The update also adds the Colossal Wyrm Agility Course.

That’s not all, however, as Varlamore: The Final Dawn was announced as the final part of the trilogy.  No window on this update, but they did release some details, including the Varlamore storyline finale, even more new areas, a new Slayer dungeon, new bosses, new Fletching activity, and more.

Leagues will return in late November with Leagues V: Raging Echoes, with some updated rules and updates to improve the experience and rewards.

A series of previously-announced additions, including HD mode, and a mobile UI overhaul, also got updates. The mobile overhaul will be here on October 9th, while another announcement on HD mode will come in a few months.

All in all, Summer Summit 2024 featured a pretty packed lineup for Old School RuneScape. Some very highly anticipated features, like custom servers, are officially coming.
