Recently, many games have been adding components and features that help new players get a foothold in the game and learn how to play better. Additionally, some are also organizing tools so that even the veterans can make better use of their time in game. Old School RuneScape has just added the Activity Adviser, a new in-game tool that takes your progress and data into account and then recommends activities that are relevant to your skill, interests, and stats.
The first version of the Activity Adviser will only be available to certain accounts as part of an initial test run. Those who are included will see a popup when they log in. Also, the first testers will only find recommendations for quests to complete. The quests that this tool suggests will prioritize ones that give access to important unlocks like progression equipment or gear. One of their motivations was seeing that sometimes early game difficulty was found in just getting around Gielinor, so maybe quests that unlock teleports would come up.
Quests are where they start, but the intention is to eventually recommend Skilling, minigames, and other categories of suggested activities. Naturally, the team is requesting feedback and suggestions on the structure.
Types of content you can find with this tool are Available Content and Target Content. Available Content is stuff you meet all requirements for and are ready to go and do right now. And Target Content is things like milestone activities and opportunities for progression that you are close to being ready for, but aren't quite there.
The process of fine-tuning the new feature will begin with the round of A/B testing, and subsequent community feedback and data. They're basing suggestions on a number of factors, not just whatever is going to be the fastest progression method or deliver the most XP, because they're looking to create something that players at any level could find useful.
