Larian Studios director of publishing Michael Douse took to Twitter/X to address frustration from players stemming from the frequent breakage of mods following each Baldur’s Gate 3 game update or hotfix.
Offering more than simple platitudes, Douse revealed the studio’s plans to roll out official and robust mod support for the game later this year. Most surprising of all, mod support will be coming to consoles as well.
We generally don’t talk about things til they’re ready, but as you may have read, we’re making an exception. We’ve been working on a robust, cross-platform plan for mod support to be released later in year. We love our modding community and we want to support them. It’s coming. https://t.co/54GsxNshlQ

Over on the game’s official Discord, Larian senior community strategist WombatMedic offered additional details on BG3’s upcoming mod support. WombatMedic explained the teams plans to create a pipeline allowing for mod authors to publish their mods across a variety of platforms, even going as far as building a team to support mod curation.
Additional mod support will be offered to allow for class, UI, customization, spells, certain unspecified game assets and game mechanics, too.
WombatMedic went on to provide some more clarity on timelines, stating that Larian aims to release the “initial stages” of mod support with the game’s next major update, which is “several months away” from release.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available now on Windows, macOS, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
