Though it's in 'Good Shape'

Obsidian's upcoming RPG, Avowed, was slated to release this November, but according to reports the open-world RPG will be delayed into 2025.

As reported by The Verge's Tom Warren, Avowed is being delayed into 2025 not because of any issue with the RPG, but rather to give it space outside a crowded Xbox Game Pass release schedule this Fall. No official word has come from Microsoft or Obsidian as of the time of this writing, but Warren's report was corroborated by Windows Central's Brendan Lowry this morning based on the outlet's own sourcing.

In Warren's reporting (which is behind a paywall), stresses that Avowed is in "good shape," and rather the delay is to move the upcoming RPG out of a busy release period on Xbox Game Pass. This Fall we're expecting to see Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, as well as STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl, which was delayed from September to November, among others. While Obsidian never officially released the full release date (though it was inadvertently leaked), Avowed was slated to launch sometime in November. It's a busy month for games, as Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed: Shadows is also slated to launch then, and BioWare's Dragon Age: The Veilguard is slated for a Fall 2024 release. Microsoft is also gearing up to launch Indiana Jones and the Great Circle sometime later this year.

Avowed got a real in-depth look during June's Xbox showcase, highlighting its intense combat and story. Avowed will be shown off at Gamescom later this month, though it will not have any hands-on demos for attendees to play; rather, it'll be part of a slate of theater presentations at the Xbox booth.
