If you were looking to place a pre-order next week for the Nintendo Switch 2, and you live in the United States, the pre-order date has now been postponed due to just-announced tariffs and market concerns.
While Nintendo insists that the on-sale date will remain June 5th, US pre-orders for the $450 console will not happen on April 9th as originally announced. This is due to a series of tariffs announced by President Donald Trump that impact a series of countries that Nintendo uses for manufacturing and parts, like Vietnam, which was hit with 46% tariffs.

Nintendo has issued a statement, seen via IGN, that says:“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.”
Nintendo announced the $450 price before the tariffs were announced, and it remains to be seen if that will also remain intact. Pre-orders will open for the UK and Europe on April 8th and in Canada on April 9th. The US date will be announced, and there will be certain priority criteria such as continuous Nintendo Switch Online membership.
