Nightingale’s next update will offer a winter event, as well as requested features like NPC automation, and the listen server for custom co-op.

Details come from Aaryn Flynn and Neil Thompson in the latest Dev Bites video. The winter update  is set to go live on December 17th. The holiday event is coming. We can expect some winter minor realm cards that will put snow on the ground. Also be surfaces you can slide around on,  almost like skating. Seems the developers have piggybacked on the grenade mechanic, as they say but you can throw snowballs and have a snowball fight if you want to. The update will also introduce a new pet, decorations, and winter themed outfits.

Building mode is getting overhauls to make building faster and access to tilesets easier. Also, you've been wanting a new tileset, the first Fae tileset is coming. Called the Obsidian tileset, they describe it as “an elegant expression of Fae architecture”, and this joins with the other sets (you can blend them too) to allow for more variety in building. This will be the first Fae set but the team has a lot more to dig into when it comes to Fae inspirations.

They’re not done with the Fae with the tileset in this update either. Look for new ring courses, circles in the sky that stand out with their visual effects. Launch yourself up and use your umbrella to glide and fly through the rings as a challenge. If you get through all of them, you'll get rewarded. These are a feature in storied realms.

On the features side, the listen server is officially set to go live, after lots of testing, with this update. it lets you have custom co-op games where your friends can join directly to your IP and you can do things together in the realms. Maybe have a snowball fight. Inflexon has been talking about working on this feature for a while, expanding options in this way, and it’s finally coming.

Another requested feature, NPC automation, is also happening. The team has been working on it for a while, but this will be the first iteration that goes live. You'll be able to recruit NPCs, send them to go to jobs for you, and have them have more of a life of their own in ways. They’ll sleep in beds and sit in chairs. There's more to be discovered, and they'll continue to develop this feature next year.
