Inflexion Games, the studio behind Nightingale, has shut down its UK division in the latest game industry layoffs.
“It is with a heavy heart that I am sharing the sad news that the UK subsidiary of Inflexion Games is closing, and with it, the roles of the Audio team based here in the UK as well as others in the UK are affected,” Jon Newman, an Audio Director affected by the layoffs, shared on LinkedIn.
Rebecca Parnell, a now-former Principle Audio Designer at the studio, also shared that the UK team was “made redundant.”
It’s unknown exactly how many were let go as part of the division shutdown. However, Newman’s post seems to confirm that others in Inflexion Games’ art department as part of Inflexion’s UK team have also been laid off, including a VFX artist and a Tech Artist, per LinkedIn profiles.
The Victorian-themed fantasy crafting-survival action game Nightingale launched in Early Access earlier this year, which included massive promotional campaigns to usher players in. Unfortunately, it received mixed reviews, including criticism for not including an “Offline Mode,” which was quickly implemented afterwards.
The game still receives updates as it progresses through Early Access; the CEO claimed that it’ll re-introduce Nightingale City as a multiplayer hub in future updates.
Before this closure and NCSoft restructuring announced earlier this week, there have been an estimated 13,000 games industry layoffs in 2024 alone, per the ongoing independent Obsidian tracker; over 30,000 have occurred since 2022.
