Nightingale is set to be released into Early Access on February 22nd, and the Inflexion team has released a new, nearly 20-minute gameplay video showing some of how to construct a base in the multiplayer, shared world survival crafting game.
The video is from an early part of the game. A character named Puck teaches you some of what to do and hints at what’s coming. The official description on the IGN video says “In this new gameplay of Nightingale, Puck welcomes the player to build an estate - a home base - in a relatively safe Abeyance Forest Realm”. This safety is important, as you find yourself in this mysterious part of the Fae Realm, which has been “left in limbo” after an event known as the “Pale”, which has frozen people in time and shut down portals to other realms.
After the opening narration and introduction, things should look a little more familiar for those who are veterans of survival games and RPGs. Crafting is a big part of Nightingale too, and the combination means there will be lots of ways to figure out how to survive in this mysterious realm. A mysterious realm it is, as we see the open spaces, floating structures in the air, and designs that look like a mix of anachronistic and a little more modern. We get peeks at resource gathering, inventory management, some of the commands like to consume or discard items, and more to get on our way.
We also see things like finding new information and adding to your codex and the ability to view a guidebook, so you'll be building upon your knowledge and saving what you need to know along the way.
Then we get to the meat of the building a home base process. Sometimes you will have what you need and other times you must leave to go get it. We see a couple of runs off to acquire more stones to build stairs. you may not have enough resources but the building process will let you know as you go along
We also get a look at Realm Cards, which look to help you to access the worlds you need. One card shown is the Abeyance Card, which, when played, you’ll “Seek a realm of minimal danger, suitable for the construction of an Estate”--which is where the demo takes place. Another is a forest card, played to seek a realm with a lush forest.
Overall, this is a long stretch of gameplay and it gives a good idea of what things might be like, especially when you first set out on your journey in Nightingale. The Inflexion team promises a series of reveals this week, as the game heads towards its launch.
