Nightingale has received some more extensive reveals, as Inflexion prepares for the Early Access launch next month.
Following last week’s IGN-exclusive debut of 20 minutes of gameplay that showed off some early game footage of systems, organization, resource gathering, and the start of building a base in the upcoming survival crafting title, even more gameplay reveals came, including a lengthy look at combat, via a group seeing out, hunting, and battling Humbaba, known as an Apex Creature, in the swamp biome. This boss fight not only shows that there’s more than just base building and resource gathering, but strategic survival and combat to prepare for if you plan to get started in Nightingale.
Humbaba attacks with minions and the efforts of teamwork carry the group through. The video also serves to show not just how it will work to plan and fight with others in the shared world, but even a bit of the spoils after the creature is slain. It’s a survival game–of course you’ll get resources by way of meat. Nothing to waste here.
All in all, the recent previews unveiled much about the world and mechanics of Nightingale. What we've learned include some of the story, and the loose setting that houses all of the objectives that also let players do what they want to do in a sandbox. As you explore different Realms and face different challenges, there is a framework, but you'll have to explore and learn more.
By exploring you'll find realm cards, which include biome cards, major cards, and minor cards, and learning how to combine them will open portals to different realms. These are procedurally generated and your journey towards Nightingale, where you are seeking to return, will happen as you unlock harder realms, train up, and reach your goals.
There is a multiplayer Hub and those Apex creature hunts we were able to see, to offer a number of different options for gameplay and to find things to do.
