Grappling hooks are about to change getting around in Nightingale. These, along with more changes in today’s “Grapple and Travel” update are part of a new development update video on what Inflexion is working on, from online mode improvements, craftable outfits, to letting that friendly fire bug be an opt-in permanent feature.
Today’s update will be adding grappling hook functionality to climbing picks. This will give some more options for getting around the realms you’re in. The tier of your picks will determine how far you can grapple.
Also in the update are Zephyr Anchor Points. If you craft and place two or more of these within the same realm, they will serve as quick travel options. If you’re playing with others, they can also use them. Since you are setting them up in the same realm, there also won't be any load times.
If you’re like us, you’re trying to take everything with you in case it’s useful later in survival games and RPGs. For the packrats out there, Pepys boxes are a form of “interdimensional storage box”. You can transport materials between boxes that you set up, including across different realms. One example they give is if you set one up in your estate and then you go to an ascended hunt realm and hunt for resources, if you build another box there to store items, you can retrieve them from the comfort of your estate.
Recently, a bug allowed for friendly fire, and with the fun some had with this sudden option, asking for it back, well Inflexion is bringing it back. This time as an opt-in feature called Charm of Brawling. If two or more players equip this charm and then use an emote, then friendly fire is in play. A reset is in play to avoid griefing, but if you want a quick duel with a friend, have at it.
You can now transfer your progress from online to offline mode as a one-way transfer option. They're also optimizing offline mode for Steam Deck and will add support for Steam Cloud saves.
We also get a bit on the next major update on the way. Some things they plan to address with that patch include making the game less overwhelming for new players and to add additional challenges to each realm.
