Finnish game studio Social First and their team of veteran game developers, has announced their debut title, Nexus Station, which is a free-to-play social sandbox game coming to both mobile and PC. The game is meant to emphasize social interaction, where players will be able to craft, trade, and join together with other players in clans.
If you’re unfamiliar with Social First, we reported on their successful funding of 4.2 million in seed money last month. In their initial announcement, the team stated they opt to become more than just a social game, but an entire social platform. Enter Nexus Station, where the team intends for players to create their own 2D worlds and generate content for co-op and competitive play in addition to a secondary marketplace, where players can trade in-game items for real-world currency in a “safe, secure marketplace.”
In this way the team at Social First aims to usher in a new age of Web3 gaming, outlining that asset trading is going to be an integral piece of their design philosophy.
“It is hard to believe that the games industry has not made digital asset trading a legitimate part of gaming years ago. It is a huge undertaking for sure. Building such a marketplace is no small task and that’s just the start. “CEO Kim Soares said in a recent blog post.
In addition, Soares went on to say that Generation 2 Web3 won’t necessarily reside on blockchain, pointing to alternative store fronts where real money will be exchanged without the need for complicated wallets and poorly made interconnectivity, along with mitigating the potential for players to be hit with additional regulations to the blockchain markets as a whole.
Initially, the game will launch in Early Access on mobile later this year, and a PC release is set to follow. In the meantime, Social First has already provided a few videos, and some closed-beta creations of Nexus Station has been dropped in the official Discord. The game still has quite a long way to go, as the developers have stated that the Early Access version “will be an early development version of the game still missing most of the features and content.” For those interested in following along with development, you can currently Wishlist the game on Steam.
