The second Smite 2 alpha weekend will take place May 30th-June 2nd. Titan Forge Games has announced the new dates, along with the arrival of weekend tournaments.
The first alpha weekend wound up giving the team more than 600,000 matches to draw from for the bug fixes and gameplay adjustments, along with balance changes, that will be in place for this next alpha weekend. There will also be some UI changes and new visual effects. If you have alpha entry via the purchase of a Founder's Edition bundle, you're already eligible to participate, but the team will be giving out additional invites.
To spice things up a little bit, the Smite 2 team is ready to add some competitive tournaments to the alpha. For those who are located in the EMEA or North American regions and have alpha access, there is an open bracket format for a 5v5 with up to two substitute players on the team. All matches except the grand final will be single knockout best of one, while those finals will be a best of three affair.
The team is kicking off tournaments in the closed alpha weekend even though there is no in-game drafting or banning system currently in the build. The team will be using the official Esports Discord to handle the pick and ban phase. It is a game in alpha after all, but the bones are already there to hold competition, so why not?
The tournament will happen on the final day of alpha, Saturday, June 1st, and begin for EMEA with check-ins at 8am ET/ 2pm CT and North America check-ins at 1pm ET. The tournament will be broadcast on the Smite Esports Twitch channel and will be the first broadcast of the year.
The team will reveal more details on the changes, roster, and additions to come in alpha, but things are clearly heating up already.
