The step next in the mobile game franchise’s path, Arknights: Endfield has announced its next beta test for its PC client coming this January.
Arknights: Endfield labels itself as a real-time 3D RPG with strategic gameplay elements. While Arknights gameplay is traditionally more akin to a tower defense game as a real-time strategy game, Endfield takes a more open-world approach to its gameplay.
In Endfield, players take up the role as the Endministrator to explore a post-apocalyptic science fiction world. As it features many of the unique, memorable characters that made its own franchise popular over the years, it looks more like modern competitors in the mobile RPG market and brings the franchise up to date in that regard.
During a playtest earlier this year, I got to give it a whirl, and it wasn’t too bad at all, minus some relatively minor gameplay qualms. However, with its prior games being gacha and no indication of what the monetization structure is, I do have my usual worries about it.
Sign-ups for the playtest are open now to all players around the world via the official Gryphline website, with UI and voice-overs for this in English, Mandarin, Korean, and Japanese. With it being a separate beta test program, there won’t be character saves, though players can stream it as they wish.
The news about the beta also comes with a nifty new trailer, and cinematics is something that Arknights always seems to do well.
