When EA's Chief Design Officer Patrick Soderlund left the company in August, he did so to form his own company called Embark that will be "making games based on new and emerging technologies". In a new press announcement, it has been revealed that Embark has received a huge influx of cash thanks to a strategic investment by Nexon. Nexon will own 33% of the company and will become the publisher for any titles developed in the future.

Soderlund says of Embark's mission: "Connected players, big data, speech recognition, cloud computing, advanced AI and more will open up new play, enabling developers to build a wider range of experiences, and for players to create and contribute. Embark is a group of veteran creators eager to move beyond current play experiences into the future."

Given the emphasis on the online experience and Nexon's MMOs and online games of the past, it will be interesting to watch what comes out of Embark.

You can read more about Embark in an interview with Soderlund at The Verge (via GamesIndustry.biz).
