Nexon Could be Making the Next StarCraft Game

My bet is on a mobile MMORPG

Nexon Co., developer of Dungeon & Fighter Online, will be creating something new with the StarCraft IP, which could be a game — or a “mobile” version of the original titles. Information about what Nexon will create in collaboration with Blizzard Entertainment is currently unavailable, and will more than likely be shared sometime in the future. When that is, has yet to be revealed.

While nothing is concrete as to what this project could be, it wouldn’t be out of the question to assume that Nexon could create a new StarCraft game for mobile devices that could very well be something in the vein of an MMORPG. (They are the developers behind MapleStory, after all.) Or at the very least include some kind of social experience. Mobile games are still all the rage, and with the success of Diablo Immortal, bets are on.

The announcement of the collaboration between Nexon and Blizzard Entertainment was shared through MTN, a Korean news outlet, and then subsequently reported on by VG247. The report also states that Nexon has secured rights for Overwatch Mobile, which seems like a mobile version of the shooter. Perhaps not too dissimilar from Apex Legends Mobile.

Either way, consumers will have to wait with baited breath until something more concrete is announced, which could happen at BlizzCon 2026. Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how the StarCraft IP could be revived by Nexon and Blizzard Entertainment’s collaborative efforts. And if it’ll be something StarCraft players are in desperate want of.
