New World Temporarily Disables Abilities to Prevent Crashes After Patching Combat Bugs and Exploits

The New World team has temporarily disabled some abilities to address some crashes after this week's update, which aimed to patch out some exploits and tweak combat.

This week’s patch sent the Turkulon back into the archives until next year and was otherwise concerned with fixing a number of issues with combat abilities. These included some exploitable bugs, like one that let the Dark Ascent Heartrune be activated and canceled repeatedly. Others attempted to fix extra damage from Pestilence when used with the Rapier, and the Rapier’s Evade to be used repeatedly without cooldowns. Another  issue was seeing players get stuck with a permanent Haste buff under certain, repeatable circumstances involving the Bunderbuss.

Well, it seems that something went wrong on that end, as reports of post-patch crashes began rolling in. The Amazon Games team updated the community on the situation, investigating the cause of the issue. After a time, the team declared that they knew what was causing the crashes, and as a result, would have to temporarily disable two combat abilities–involving the Blunderbuss and Rapier.

“We've identified the causes behind recent client crashes. To swiftly resolve this, the Rapier's "Evade" and Blunderbuss's "Net Shot" abilities have both been temporarily disabled. And although they will remain slot-able, activation will be unavailable by all.

These abilities will be re-enabled once a permanent fix for the client crash is implemented in an upcoming patch. We acknowledge the impact on certain playstyles and builds, but this is was [sic] determined to be the fastest and safest way to swiftly restore overall client stability.”

Some responses from the community ranges from asking for a rollback of the whole patch to noting that this big patch issue came after the recent community Q&A where the team discussed their determination to take their time to deliver more polished updates
