New World is preparing to open its PTR server for its promised cross-world Expeditions, along with an improved group finder.

The Amazon Games Studios team has promised both features for a while, making the decision to spend some more time developing features like this in order to get them out in a more finished and polished state. This was the reason stated, having more quality content over quantity, for holding back on some features.

They everyone know that these features would come sometime in the middle of Season 4: Eternal Frost, and not before then. The season began on December 12th and now we’re headed towards that midpoint. The PTR is currently set to open on January 16th (tomorrow), for those who have a PTR client.

The New World team is planning for a special session with the devs on January 19th, where members of the dev and community teams will be available to run Expeditions with the community.  That will begin at 4 PM PT.

Find out full details on the PTR and how to participate here.

The New World team also has a new Forged in Aeternum video, where the team is talking all about the economy. Putting up with the admission that the last time they shared a video about the in-game economy, they had just released the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion, and filmed the video before they got to see the impact on the community of some of the economic changes.  the economy, after that launch went from what is known as “a faucet economy” into a “sink” economy. A faucet economy means that there's more money coming in than going out. a sink economy is the opposite.

They detail what happened, how the team adjusted in terms of things like the winter event, the faction shop, Golden Scarab crafting changes, and additional changes that led the economy back to a faucet..

Given all of this, they're also talking about the future issues and concerns and the  intent to keep players involved in feedback. This may also mean they make slower changes to make sure the adjustments get properly monitored and that quick change from faucet to sink does not happen again.
