New World, Amazon Games' flagship MMORPG, has announced a limited-time test of a new in-game feature aimed at enhancing the user experience on congested worlds. This comes in the wake of the game's latest expansion, Rise of the Angry Earth, which has seen a surge in player numbers and consequently, longer queue times.

If you jumped back into New World for their latest expansion, then you probably were met with queues if you reside on popular servers. Due to this, Amazon Games has decided to include a new feature that will allow players to initiate a free World Transfer directly from the Character Selection screen during peak queue times. To access this feature, players will simply need to select the "options" button near their desired character. However, there are some restrictions. Transfers can only be made to non-Full/Fresh Start worlds within the player's existing region, meaning no cross-region transfers will be available.

This first test specifically targeted the US East region on 10/13/2023 from 6 pm to 9 pm PDT, and has since concluded. Amazon Games encouraged many players to participate with the developer’s primary goal for success being an extensive monitoring of back-end service performance.

Upon the new feature’s official release, Amazon will only activate free world transfers during high queue times, such as after major updates or expansions. Coinciding with its activation, paid World Transfers will also temporarily become unavailable in the In-Game Store for all regions. They will, however, return upon deactivation of the free transfer feature.

The recent spike in queue times can be attributed to the release of New World's first major expansion, Rise of the Angry Earth. This expansion has transformed the lands of Aeternum, introducing new content and challenges. Players can now ride mounts, wield new weapons, and explore transformed lands. Additionally, a new Level 62+ Expedition has been introduced, where players can track down the primordial Beast Lords before chaos emerges from the depths of Aeternum.

Now that the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion has brought exciting new content to New World to entice an influx of players, the inclusion of Amazon Games' free World Transfer feature is a proactive step towards ensuring a smoother gaming experience for future expansions. Whether gamers want to chance a world transfer when they’ve already invested time into a server will be another story entirely.
