New World's first winter and holiday event has been extended. The Winter Convergence Festival will now end on January 25th. An update on the official site indicated that this was due to "fantastic turnout” , but it does provide players with a little extra time to complete tasks and open presents before the event ends.
January is the beginning of the year but it's also a period of preparing for Change and with yesterday's announcement of the January PTR and community response, New World is definitely headed for some change. While there are also ongoing issues, like character transfer being “temporarily” disabled but still days later there's no explanation for why this happened or when it will be turned back on.
Extending the event might just give a little breathing room to let people enjoy themselves with some additional content before everything that's being tested on the PTR, from Expedition Mutations, to Umbral Shards, and adjustment to fast travel, comes up in the next big update. While many games were celebrating their winter events through much of December into the early part of January, New World will be keeping the yeti around for just a little while longer. There may very well be positive turnout for the event, especially as a first run, but having the extra items and goals in there can't hurt.
It's no secret that New World has had a bumpy first few months and some growing pains since, but the team has worked to reassure the community that the devs are listening. That said, extending the event does make some sense if it means they’ll still have this extra stuff to do, and because some of the outcome is planned to mark the world even after the event ends.
