New World: Aeternum's open beta concluded recently, and Amazon Games Orange County is sharing some stats from the test, including the news that the Sandwurm wiped all of the very few, brave souls who deigned to take it on.

The New World: Aeternum open beta was the last such test before next month's October 15th launch on Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5 and PC, and while it only featured leveling content up to level 30, that didn't stop some players from attempting some end-game shenanigans.

During the open beta, 168 players attempted to down the Sandwurm in Brimstone Sands, only for everyone to wipe in the attempt, which, I mean, was predictable. Yet valiant.

Other stats shared was a breakdown of the most popular archetypes, with Swordbearer taking top billing. Interestingly, despite more players choosing Swordbearer, the Bow was the most used weapon in the New World: Aeternum open beta, followed up by the standard sword, fire staff and then the great sword.

Additionally, over 10 million quests were completed by players across all platforms with a whopping 39,664,662 enemies killed in the open world, while 986,367 were killed in the Amrine Excavation Expedition alone. Medea herself was the deadliest enemy throughout the test, though Amazon stops short of saying just how deadly she was.

New World: Aeternum is set to launch on consoles for the first time since New World released in 2021, while the PC version will simply get an upgrade to this new version of the MMO. New World: Aeternum changes quite a bit of the MMO, from its new action combat-oriented camera to a more cinematic storytelling experience, with an emphasis on solo play.

We got the chance to play the open beta during an early access event, and came away rather impressed, though it's not perfect, and still leaves questions as to what long-time PC players are going to get out of the upgrade when it finally launches next month.
