Now that the open beta has ended after PC and console players got to test out some of the new build for the first time together, New World: Aeternum has details on servers for next month’s planned launch.
New World: Aeternum will launch on October 15th, and with the additional platforms, there are some things to get used to if you're a veteran player, or to play with friends on consoles. Two of the most important things involve platforms. There will be cross-play, So you and your friends can group up and play together on the same world. However, all characters will only be accessible to the platform you create them on. This means if you create a character on Playstation 5, you won't be able to play that same character on PC.
Every server that opens with console release will be a Standard world, and existing servers, both “Standard” and “Fresh Start”, will become “Legacy” servers. This is important to know, because if you have characters on Legacy worlds, you won't be able to transfer them to any of the new Standard worlds. You could choose to transfer a character from Standard to Legacy, If you're sure about your decision, because you can't return to a Standard world after that.

There will be console-only servers, and these will be limited to the platform that you're playing on. so if you play on an Xbox standard Xbox only world, you'll only be playing with Xbox players. While, in general, cross-play with others is an option, those console-only worlds are intentionally limited to their specific console players. PC players can create characters on Standard servers that aren’t console-only. Creating characters will also still be possible on Legacy servers, As long as they aren't at capacity or transfer restricted.
