New World: Aeternum has revealed Season 8, “Season of the Divide”, and it's all about competition, risk, and reward.
The update will be here on May 13th. Coral Divide will make its way into the live game after several tests for the new OPR map. The team will also host preview events that feature new PVP modes and new maps. Outpost Rush gets a new mode, Barebones, without gear perks and everyone at max gear score, among those tests.
There will also be 10v10 Capture the Flag in testing. Additionally, a 3v3 Arena map preview will showcase the biggest Arena ever in its ancient temple grove. The death fog closes in faster here, squeezing everyone into melee fast.
Expeditions get a new twist, with limited-time open-world world boss encounters with Mammoth Mahantaram, Scarab Boss Khepri, and Fire Naga Ifrit in the new season.
The seasonal special ruleset server is Hardcore, coming in June. You start as “unfallen”, with the potential to gain special elite rewards as long as your character doesn’t die. It’s Aeternum, however, so even if you do, your character remains on the server and the journey becomes easier. There are still rewards to chase, even if the ones for the unfallen remain gated away. Progression is faster with bonuses and a streamlined main quest to follow.
PvP improvements are coming, with PvP Camps this season. PVP-flagged players are able to place or bind to a faction-only destructible camp. Of course, this means it's an additional Target for you to take down your enemies camp to give them a disadvantage when it comes to spawning close to the fight.
Expect seven new Artifacts to collect, new Season Pass reward tracks, quality of life improvements, and returning events. The packed season announcement has lots more detail.
