More about Soulframe, the medieval fantasy-themed action successor to Warframe by Digital Extremes, was shared today during the studio’s first live Soulframe Devstream event at Warframe’s in-person Tennocon event. The panel unveiled more about the first area of the game, some of what we’ll be encountering, and a new NPC that’ll help players out during the journey.
As an introduction into the world of Soulframe, players will first play through the “Warsongs Prologue,” which is deemed the first “Fable”—assumedly the title for chapters and stories in this specific game. Through a gameplay demo, players got a preview at the unique customization and choice system, plus the unique perks of the prologue portion of this story.
The new unlockable Ancestor NPC is Verminia, the Rat Witch, who’s an alchemist of some sort; Digital Extremes describes her as helping both with cosmetics and potions, elixirs, and other tinctures. Concept art was also shown of Bromius, an enemy that’ll be encountered early on. Plus, the team discussed the “undercity,” which will be the dungeon portion of the game, including puzzle-solving aspects to tackle.
During the stream, the team shared that around September, they’ll be introducing Warsongs Prologue for everyone interested to play, plus stopping required character resets between playtests and access periods. For now, the team is still trickling invites out to players who signed up, including an extra 10,000 this Monday at 2:00 p.m. EDT (and all in-person Tennocon attendees will receive an invite, too).
Small closed alpha tests have already taken place, which the devs expressed gratefulness for.
“The closed testing we’ve been doing with our community has been so impactful; we’ve learned a ton, and we continue to listen and learn each day,” said Creative Director Geoff Crookes in a press release. “We’re hoping to open this up to a lot more players this fall. Everything is still rough around the edges, but that’s part of our style - the feedback is important to us, and we really do iterate on it regularly.”
Devs also noted that there are no imminent/solid console launch plans, though they’re “talking” to partners responsible.
We have a member of MMORPG on the ground at Tennocon for more updates from the Digital Extremes/Warframe event.
