Dune: Awakening  gets another sneak peek from Funcom, as the team continues to take us inside their upcoming Dune survival MMO. This time, let’s head to Arrakis.

The video is another brief one, this time featuring Game Director Viljar Sommerbakk, and while short, does give some important details. In the Dune universe, Arrakis is a harsh planet, and among the most dangerous in the universe for a number of reasons. Of course, this is one of the reasons why it makes such a challenging and rich setting for a survival MMO.

The desert is dangerous, of course. If you run into conflict, you’ll want a Blood Exsanguinator handy. There are additional biomes you’ll potentially encounter in your journey, but first things first, are the sand and sun. There are sandstorms to worry about, so you’ll need safe shelter ASAP. And, you’ll need water.

Water is one of the most precious things on this planet, and you’ll work for your supply. If you are out in the sun on this blazing desert planet for too long, you'll dehydrate and it will impact your character. Stay in the shadows as much as possible during the day, and wear a Stillsuit. You'll have to extract and also conserve water, so strategy is vital. You'll even be harvesting water drops by hand to get as much as possible. No drop is to go to waste.

Of course, you can’t forget about the sandworms. This makes any crossing treacherous, and you'll have to do some careful planning, turn off your tech, and proceed very carefully to minimize vibrations. Tech usage, fast movements, and other causes for vibrations will “enrage” the worms. “You and your guild will want to be far away when it hits”.

Arrakis is going to be a challenge, and it looks like Funcom will continue taking us into Dune: Awakening soon.
