During today's Hi-Rez Expo, the team announced that "a new Battle Royale game mode" is coming to Paladins. Called "Battlegrounds", teams of players will combine both survival game play and fantasy settings to bring a new twist to the ever-growing genre. Battlegrounds matches will last approximately 20 minutes and will see up to 100 players on teams taking part. The last team standing, wins.
The map is 300 times the size of a typical Siege map and allows players to mount up and explore prior to the lifting of the "fog of war". During the exploration, they will need to loot outposts and track airborne zeppelins that can drop legendary gear. Once the fog lifts, the fight begins.
Battlegrounds will be free to all players and those attending today's Expo will have a chance to try out an alpha version of Battlegrounds, which will launch on live servers in 2018.
Also during the Expo, Hi-Rez announced:

- Paladins Strike Mobile "hero shooter with MOBA controls" is in development

- first update to roll out on January 10th for PC and January 17th for consoles
